castello di pomaro

In front of the main entrance to the Castle stand 2 impressive 130 year-old Celtis Australis
whose heights are 30 and 20 meters respectively, which is as high as a 10-storey building, and whose circumferences are 4.6m and 4.1m

The trees have an impressive overhang enhanced by their being positioned right above the 2 monumental staircases leading up to the Castle.

Presumably, the trees were planted during the last re-designing and refurbishing works of the garden and park, which took place during the XIXth century.
The Castle is much older though as the original vital central core dates back to the XIIIth century.   [back]
